My Fair Lady - Why Can't The English?

延續去年的《教父》系列老片回顧的跨年方式，今年以奧黛麗赫本電影為主，首選《窈窕淑女》（My Fair Lady）。

《My Fair Lady》故事背景以二十世紀初的倫敦為舞台，粗俗的賣花女（奧黛麗赫本飾演） 如何經由一位語言學教授調教後，晉升上流社會。

故事一開始，語言學教授連續丟出好幾個問題

這一段點出"Why Can't the English learn how to speak? "這問題很發人深省。

很值得對語言有興趣，不僅是英文、更可以對比母語。

a reacher and a settler

這是How I Met Your Mother (5-13 Jenkins)上星期一段很有意思的對話：
Marshall對於完全放心不吃醋的Lily，感到有些奇怪。
他想應該是他們之間的感情，是建立在很深厚的信任上。
所以Lily很放心Marshall和他女同事，完全一點都沒醋勁生氣或質疑。
結果Robin和Ted就有了以下這段「男女感情平衡的理論」：

Robin：Every good relationship has a reacher and a settler.
Ted：Exactly. One person reaches for someone out of their league; the other one settles for someone below theirs.
Robin：The settler is never jealous of the reacher because where is the reacher going to go?
Ted：The settler Lily is best thing that the reacher Marshall is ever going to get.
每一段好的關係中，都會有一個追求者和一個屈就者
確實。一個人爭取到一個比自己優秀的人，另一個屈就不如自己的。
屈就者從不妒忌追求者，因為追求者能去哪呢？
屈就者Lily是追求者Marshall能得到的最好東西。

這一集，倒是學了不少很俏皮的slang。

gossip girl vs. Dickens

Gossip Girl 第3季13集, 一開始就引用了狄更斯在「雙城記」裡面很經典的名言

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Seems Dickens knew something about life on the upper east side.

那是最美好的時代, 也是最糟糕的時代。看來狄更斯很了解上城東區的人們。

突然覺得很像我現在的狀況，前幾天很迅速的辭掉才剛上任不久的品牌代理營運處長的職務
這三個禮拜的工作，發現自己一點都不適合上市上櫃的大公司型態
工作性質是我最喜愛的，但是考慮到這趟回來的目的是多陪陪爸爸
這樣每天超時的工作狀態，只好忍痛立即地割捨掉
很感謝這三個禮拜經理和副總的照顧，短短三個禮拜我馬上清楚知道現在的我要的是什麼
繼續往前進，開始找適合自己目前的工作

樹敵Enemies

The West Wing 1-08  Enemies
在白宮風雲第一季08集，這整集幾乎是總統幕僚到處滅火的一集
從一開始看似毫無疑問將通過的法案，到後來幕僚會議中總統當眾訓斥副總統
火苗似乎在白宮裡四處竄起，幕僚們只能不斷地想法子滅火
整集結束的最後一段對話，Josh想出滅火方法向總統報告後
他也提醒總統，下面這段話

Josh：We talk about enemies more than we used to.
The President：What?
Josh：We talk about enemies more than we used to. I wanted to mention that.

白宮風雲真的是非常高難度的影集
不過真的很適合尤其是在領導階級的管理人士看
智趣的談話比喻，West Wing我至少還要前後再看個五六次才會懂得其中的涵義

Indecent Proposal -桃色交易

昨天第一次看桃色交易, 雖然不僅海報或是片名都讓我有種我一定看過似曾相識的感覺。

片頭的第一句話, 很適合給在感情上很執著的人

TV time

看電影學英文，最大的作用在於練口語

我也深有同感，

我們以單位時間來計算學習量，

１、背單字，一分鐘最少最少可背９個單字，

一小時，就可背熟５４０個單字，

２、聽教材，一小時可聽完半小時的教材２次，

大約可抓到４或５個單字，

３、克漏字，可做半小時的教材２次，

但是只看電影，不是重覆看ＤＶＤ的話，

因為聲音和畫面稍縱即逝，一小時可以聽到的字很少，

如果程度不好，全是聽不懂的單字，就變成雜音，浪費２小時。

如果唸到第九套再看電影ＤＶＤ，又沒什麼單字，

所以單字增加有限，但可以練跟述。
